So what has changed?

April 3, 2018April 3, 2018 The Girl With Kidney Failure3 Comments

Every time someone sees me since my transplant, they always ask me how I am feeling now. I guess its a valid question. Everyone says I look so different so it makes sense that they would want to know if  I feel any different. There are good things that have changed and there are some… Continue reading So what has changed?

Fitness + The Transplant Games

Ah, the transplant games. I remember when I was diagnosed initially and I was doing my work-up for the transplant list, my transplant co-ordinator mentioned the transplant games. I didn’t think much of it then. I had just been diagnosed and all I knew is that I wanted a new kidney. Lets go back in… Continue reading Fitness + The Transplant Games

General Isolation- Post Transplant Part 2 + going home

January 12, 2018January 12, 2018 The Girl With Kidney Failure4 Comments

In my last post transplant blog post (here) I was on Day 5 of my recovery and I was peeing on myself. This resulted in the nurses having to put a bedpan next to my bed as I could not make it to the bathroom in time. My days literally consisted of me getting up… Continue reading General Isolation- Post Transplant Part 2 + going home

Kidney disease awareness speech

December 3, 2017 The Girl With Kidney Failure1 Comment

Today I was asked to speak at an event to raise awareness for kidney disease. They were also raising funds for Tygerberg Renal Unit. If you’re interested, read what I had to say below. Today was also the first day that I left the house since my transplant! I only went out for an hour… Continue reading Kidney disease awareness speech

ICU- Post Transplant Part 1

November 27, 2017November 27, 2017 The Girl With Kidney Failure2 Comments

The last two weeks have been a roller coaster. I have been struggling to find the motivation to actually write a blog post because I am adjusting to an overactive kidney and a ton of medication. So now I am taking some time to myself and I am going to write an honest post about… Continue reading ICU- Post Transplant Part 1

The day before surgery

November 6, 2017November 6, 2017 The Girl With Kidney Failure8 Comments

It’s currently 1am and I can’t sleep. It’s the morning of my surgery. In exactly 7 hours, my dad will be going into theatre and two hours later, so will I. In approximately 13 hours, I will (hopefully) have a new functioning kidney.  I know a lot of you have been waiting for me to… Continue reading The day before surgery

Kidney Transplant Workup – Recipient

As some of you may know, I will be going for my kidney transplant shortly. There are many factors when it comes to organ transplant. The recipient and the donor should both be quite healthy. I will write a separate post on the donors workup but for now, we will talk about the different tests… Continue reading Kidney Transplant Workup – Recipient

I wrote a new blog post about how life has changed since my transplant. The good and the bad. Firstly, chicken nugget addiction is back 😂 you know where to find the rest 🙄💁
I told everyone today that I’m 23. It was all going well until I was surprised with this cake 😂
Exactly three months ago (around this time) I woke up from surgery with a brand new kidney. The last few months have been interesting, challenging but mostly exciting. I started doing all the things I couldn’t do while on dialysis (like taking a long walk on the promenade) and I am happy to report that my life is mostly back to normal (with an addition of 14 pills a day). I’m writing a post about what exactly has changed since my surgery and I cannot wait to share that with you!
We need new T-shirt’s 😒 And a nap 🙏🏼
Our Jaffle is leaving us for Dubai 😌 13 years later, and we’re still getting together to eat as much as we can. The next meal will be in the Middle East 😛
The picture on the left is what I looked like before getting sick. The picture on the right is 3 weeks after surgery. Today I go back to running + the gym with the goal of participating in the 2019 Transplant Games and to get back to the body I had before getting sick . I wrote a little blog post on that and my second post transplant recovery journey!
Unofficial bridesmaid maybe? 💁👰#FirstOneDown
This was taken in my back yard 🙄 #AfricanProblems
Literally been living in water for the past few days since I couldn’t swim while on dialysis #GoPro
